Reasons to be Cheerful 1, 2, 3

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy with a Heart

  1. Aaron's on the mend.  Still didn't give him formula today but he had cordial (as recommended by GP) and 2 bananas, brown bread, breastmilk, and 3/4 of an Organix jar.  This is the first jar he's had since Saturday so it's progress.  And his crawling is nearly back at full speed, and he no longer flops his head on the ground a few seconds into crawling.  Energy definitely on the return.  Oh and he also had a few mouthfuls of carrot and parsnip off my plate at lunchtime.  I knew he was getting back to himself because hubby took him for a walk this afternoon, and when they got back I leaned the banana on the highchair tray to cut it up and Aaron grabbed the half that was still in the skin and started knawing on it caveman style.  THAT made me know his appetite had resumed and that made me happy.  Incidentally we have been following the BRAT diet with Aaron the last few days.
  2. My aunt who visited a few weeks ago, on the way to Australia (from Ireland) is visiting tomorrow on her way back, and she has been skype-ing us from Oz the last few days.
  3. I actually did my first clothes line-dry of the season today. Was happy about that.
After the week we've had, I am definitely leaving it at 3 reasons.  Sadly I could do a longer list of reasons to be sad.  Here's hoping things pick up.

Back with a no.4.  The car seat arrived today and I love it...

This is a blog hop.  Hop along using the below:

I've joined the BMB comment group and have the following lovely blogs in my group:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        and myself of course:

Will have to get round and say hi, although it's not easy to do anything with Aaron still sick.

Getting Better

Well it's 22:55 and we're all still awake.  Aaron kept everything in today but had NO FORMULA...

This is a photo from 12:15 this afternoon when he had a fleeting peak in energy and pulled himself up to kneeling.

I kept editing this post all day to give an hour by hour account of how he was today.

Bye for now,

Photo Mat Set contains 8 "Png." Mats, each measures 2178 X 1545 pixels in size at 300 dpi.

Car Seat for a 9 month old

Well I am very happy.  I have had it at the back of my mind for months that Aaron needs to go up to the next car seat.... In December I was happy to stretch things out as we spent 3 weeks in Ireland in January and you can't beat the convenience of a carry handle car seat.

Anyhoo! moving on.... I could not decide and felt stressed every time I thought about it.

Aaron was weighed at 10.41 kg on 21st March so it's definitely time to move on, and he's 9 months....

Anyway I am really glad I have stalled as I just got the car seat of my dreams for the price of my dreams....

This car seat does 9 months to 11 years!!!!!!!!!! and is currently on offer with Mothercare.

£40 off AND 10% off, so it's only £107.99 when the RRP is £159.99

See here: Mothercare next stage car seat offer BUT DON'T FORGET TO ENTER THE CODE AT THE CHECKOUT TO GET THE 10% OFF.  J4AP

This offer's on till 17th April 2011.

This is not in any way a sponsored post... I wish!!! I am just happy with my bargain.....!  My one reservation was that 2 of my favourite bloggers had blogged about car seats a few months ago so I went back to their blogs in case they had blogged about a better car seat, but luckily (look at this review) it's the same one..... Lucky "Mummy's Little Monkey" got hers provided - wish I did!

I purchased the Britax Evolva Plus 1-2-3 Car Seat - Jet

Very happy with my purchase. Click here and then click "view video".  If you watch the video you may just love it as much as me, and I haven't even seen it in the flesh yet.

The Gallery - hair

The theme for this week's Gallery is hair.

This leads me to think of Aaron as I simply love his curls.

Curly Aaron :-)

Today's Status

well due to the diarrhoea last night, my Sister-in-law who's a paediatrician has recommended staying off the formula today, and only having breast milk, dioralyte and maybe toast.  May also try banana later.

Aaron's in a good mood, just doesn't have his normal energy.

I will keep editing the below as the day goes on.

A step back

After writing the post about Aaron's sickness, I thought he was getting better today.  Nothing coming out either end, BUT very weak.

However, at 10 p.m. he had explosive diarrhoea
yet won't accept any fluids.... and is now asleep.... not good.  Yet another change of clothes for baby and mummy.  The washing's stacking up...

Fingers crossed he's a little better after a night's sleep.....

Time for Metal Mummy's movie meme.

I have spent far tooooooooo long thinking about this one...... favourite chick flick.

I have picked The Devil Wears Prada.

I can relate.  I often work in P.A. second in command roles AND I have had 2 bosses like this.  So much so that the 2nd one bought me a Prada bag (yep a real one) in homage to the film.

I bought it as soon as it came out on DVD.  Actually another movie I did that with, was The Time Traveller's Wife, which I wrote about here.

Bye for now, Liska x

Facebook Hurts

A fellow blogger - Circus Queen - recently wrote about Facebook and I read it in the abstract, never having had a bad Facebook experience and largely using it for photo sharing and staying in touch. But yesterday I saw the cruel side of Facebook.

The person dishing out the hurt was clever enough NOT to make their comment malicious comms, (which is illegal) but dug the knife in nonetheless.

So what happened?
Well an old colleague is going to the sun for a few months.  I've been wanting to meet up with her for ages but we hadn't pulled it off yet.  When I saw pictures of a great night I innocently commented "did I miss a leaving do?"  Anyone who knows me would know that I wasn't moaning for not being invited but rather expressing that it looked like a good night, and all the people there I get on well with.  I also fleetingly wondered does having a young baby exclude me now - was just a passing thought, but the person in the photo knows I am very fond of her and we regularly exchange comments on Facebook.

Well another old-colleague who de-friended me on FB months ago, decided to comment below mine saying:

What a lovely fun picture... I think its great that you had a party with your close friends to say goodbye. Thats just the way it should be. Hope you have a safe trip and a great time in the sun :-)

Now, what makes it intentional? (1) there were 37 photos but he commented on the same one as me (2) the only comments on that photo were mine and his. (3)And reading between the lines how loaded is that comment? Even though there is a veneer of treacle! I have bolded the loaded bits.

Now this would have NORMALLY been like water of a duck's back BUT Aaron was asleep on my knee and VERY VERY sick (not a regular thing at all and Mum was scared), and I was specifically on Facebook last night, to cheer myself up.  It was the small-mindedness, vindictiveness and unnecessary aspect of it that hurt, and made me cry.

As I blog more, I Facebook less and looks like this trend will continue.

I don't know how people like that sleep at night.  I don't always think I deserve better, but I know Aaron does, and hurt him, and you hurt me.

Don't cross my path again.

The posts unwritten

Aaron's asleep on me (he's sick before anyone judges)....

So time to type one-handed.

There are sooooooo many posts I have not written, that are in my head
  1. Tongue tie.  How it affected breast feeding... what it is etc....
  2. Combination feeding.  What's good, what's not.
  3. Low milk supply. What works, what doesn't.
  4. HR rights during maternity.
  5. Circumcision.  Sadly, yes, you read that right :-(
  6. The right length of maternity leave to take.
  7. Having a baby late 30s.
  8. Establishing breast feeding at 6 weeks.
  9. Baby wearing.
and the list goes on and on........ I write rubbish and participate in linkys, when there are some important things to be talked about.  I would have given my left arm to read a post about subjects 1,2,3 and 8 back when I needed to.... Google never gave me the necessary info.....

So when will I
write what matters?

My sick baby

Aaron was vomiting from 1:30 to 5:30 last night.  Then woke 8 a.m. .... bottle, and all back up.  Change of clothes and nappy and now asleep on my chest. I'm devastated and so so worried.  It's 8:45 and I'm waiting for Chemist to open at 11 a.m.

My poor baby.

Silent Sunday

Silent Sunday

When 1 fat lady is fatter than 2

On 16th March I was weighed (as part of changing GP surgeries) and the nurse informed me that I am 95 kg.

Before I got pregnant I was 88 kg (and I thought THAT was heavy) and I was pleased that at my 6 week check-up after a C-section I was back to 88 kg....

So where has this extra 7 kg come from????  Whoever gave it to me, take it back!

To think, I was slimmer when I was TWO fat ladies (to anyone who hasn't made the connection, in BINGO the number 88 is referred to as two fat ladies).

According to this post in my OLD blog, I was two fate ladies all the way back in 2008.

Oh and Aaron was weighed on Monday, and he was 10.41 kg so it is clearly time to finally pick the next stage up car-seat which we still haven't done.

If a Mummy is reading this, I am open to suggestions on car-seats as I don't know where to start.....

Garden Centre Lunch

Aaron had lunch in a garden centre today.  He was a very good boy and we all enjoyed the fresh air and the day out.

Ideal Home Show

We went to the IHS today.  The main highlight was the Corrie House.  On the one hand I liked it (queued for long enough) but on the other, I was a little disappointed.

  1. The fab footage of old fab storylines being shown to us in the queue.
  2. Seeing the upstairs of the Barlow's house.
  3. Some great photos on the Rovers' Return wall.
  1. The queue.
  2. The emptiness of the Rovers. (Just a place to queue).
  3. The fact that the modern version of the Barlow's house had no personal possessions in it - are we to believe they redecorate and leave their photos down?
  4. There was something missing... can't put my finger on what...
  5. It was shockingly hot at the whole show.  Aaron ended up in vest and jeans...
Anyway, here are the snaps... My one regret: that I didn't get "before" pics of the sitting room and kitchen.

Born Free bottle while Mum ate lunch.

Cardboard Ken in Rovers

Photo wall in Rovers.

Ken and Deirdre's bedroom.

Their boiling cupboard.

Their bathroom.

Is this Tracy and Amy's bedroom?

The knocked through kitchen diner.

Flash kitchen.

Snazzy sitting room.

Ken's bedroom's now ensuite.

Photo of mirror in loos - us babywearing.

STUNNING water feature!
That photo above is taken by me, but I am taking a picture of the mirror.... yet it came out so clear.  I had to hold the camera away from my face to see what I was capturing in the mirror.  My Silent Sunday (27th March) is a close up, where you can't see the frame of the mirror, and there is no blur or haze, you can't even tell it's taken in the mirror.  It's confusing actually.... me photographing me, photographing me.... a picture of a picture of a picture..... Is it just my newly acquired baby brain, or is it indeed a brain fuck???? (Excuse the language I don't usually swear).

Find out more about the Corrie house: click here

Pseudo Film Scratches

Pseudo Film Scratches is a set of three large textures good for giving a photo or image a heavily used and scratched appearance,  As always, hope they may be of some use.
